Driving to Yellowstone


Getting to Yellowstone can be an adventure in itself. The park is located in the remote northwest corner of Wyoming and shares a border with southwest Montana and a small portion of eastern Idaho. Many of the highways in and around Yellowstone are generally two lane roads that pass through national forests or wilderness areas. Weather in this region is often unpredictable especially during the winter and conditions can change rapidly. Allow for extra time during your travels to and from the park.


If you plan on traveling to Yellowstone from one of these major cities in the Rocky Mountain West, here is a mileage chart with approximate drive times from each of those destinations. All directions originate at the airport for the designated city listed below and terminate in the town of West Yellowstone, Montana which is the West Entrance to Yellowstone. The one exception is Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Directions from the Jackson Hole Airport terminate at the South Entrance to Yellowstone National Park.
